Since first creating my Elmau Web pages I have been contacted by many ex-Helfer etc. (and a few people intending to work at Elmau in the near future), and have even enabled old friends to get back in touch. ("Thank you for giving my e-mail address to my friend [xxx]! It was a big surprise to hear from him after such a long time. I tried to find him on the internet many times, but I couldn't find him. I'm glad he found your home page! It really works.")
So if you are also looking to contact someone, let me know... Also, if you have a website you could set up a link pointing here, so it's easy for other ex-Helfer(innen) to find it. Here's a list of those I've been in touch with over the last few years. I've used maiden names for those who have since married, given the date they were at Elmau (if otherwise unmarked 1984-5), and have also included myself just for completeness! Some of the e-mail addresses have unfortunately changed, so if you notice any errors please let me know (any that I know to be out of date are marked with [NG]). Also, please note that due to the danger of Spam robots, all of the addresses on this page have had an extra "delete_this_bit." added -- please delete it before hitting "Send".
In May 2000 this "Network" suddenly seemed to take off -- after a few years of only 1-2 messages per month, there was an explosion of interest and dozens of ex-Helfer(in) started getting in touch, both with me and with each other. As my time was limited, someone else took the initiative and set up a Yahoo Group which offers various facilities I can't do here. It is rather sporadic, though -- long periods when nothing happens. Have a look anyway (and tell others you meet there about this page). Someone has also set up a separate group just for Dutch ex-Helfer(innen).
In June 2002, someone (Dietmar?) apparently decided to set up an "official" ex-Elmau page at www.exElmau.de, with plenty of bells & whistles, if that's what you want. Icons, smilies, funny colours, logins, registration screens ... just not that many ex-Elmauites, from what I saw. :-) Worst of all, it greeted you with the message, "Willkommen, Gast". Evidently they had no idea how most of us felt about the guests! The site seems to have vanished now in any case.
In the meantime, I've added several photos from 1984-5 to FlickR (Matt Busby also kindly sent me 44 photos from around 1980, while Marco Schipper has created a great site with over 200 Elmau photos from the 70s and 80s). There are more pix on the Yahoo site, although most are in the Files section instead of the Photos section, for some reason. I may add some more here too, if you've any good ones (especially group photos; please keep them small though, i.e. no larger than 30K). I've also added a page of Elmau memories from what people have sent me, although this is only a small fraction so far, and I've deleted most of the names in case any 'confidences' were not meant to be shared. To get around this problem in future, I've also set up (on a trial basis) a guest book, but as space is limited, please restrict your postings to your memories of Elmau rather than general chit-chat (there's the Yahoo group for that). :-)
